An international initiative by Unge Vil The Norwegian youth-led non-profit dedicated to building Network, Passion and Experience for people aged 13-26 years.
What is Create A Spark?
Create A Spark is Unge Vil’s international initiative, built on the experiences from the Unge Vil Model and Kollektivet. Here, young people from different countries come together to explore creativity, collaboration, and leadership through intensive “marathon” workshops and other activities that foster mastery and community.
Through short processes such as Music Marathon, Film Marathon, and Comic Marathon, participants receive guidance from mentors, develop their own projects from idea to finished result, and share them collectively. The focus is on mastery, collaboration, and the joy of creation with the resources available – not on technical perfection.
We are already collaborating with partners in Armenia and Brazil, and our goal is to build an international network of young creators and organizations who share the Unge Vil spirit: giving young people genuine participation, experience, and the opportunity to pass it on to the next generation.
Who is Unge Vil?
Unge Vil is a youth-led, volunteer non-profit based in Vestland, Norway. We empower young people through non-formal learning, creativity and community participation. Our primary target group is 13–30, with a secondary group of 7–12 (Junior programmes) and adult volunteers (30+) as community champions.
All concepts are co-created by young people together with Unge Vil mentors. Today we have 18 volunteer youth project leaders across six cities in Norway—most are former participants who “give back” to the next cohort through the Unge Vil Model, built on experience-sharing, resource-sharing and intergenerational knowledge transfer. We prioritise mastery and inclusion in all youth groups, avoiding labels or stigmatisation.
We collaborate across disciplines and sectors with schools, libraries, municipalities and civil-society organisations, and we actively pursue co-creation, co-applications and co-financing with partners. Internationally, our Create A Spark initiative maintains partnerships in Armenia and Brazil.
Our current activity portfolio spans film, music, concerts, festivals, healthy gaming, history, role-playing, and nature/outdoor life. Unge Vil mentors collectively bring 20+ years of experience in youth work, culture and the creative fields.
Current concepts include but are not limited to:
- Movie Marathon A Film Marathon is a low-threshold activity for youth and young adults. In a Film Marathon, we use what we have available — for example a mobile phone, a webcam, or any other equipment — since the focus is on mastering interpretation and storytelling, rather than the technical quality of the video itself. During the workshop, participants receive training in everything from script writing to acting and camera work, and they are supported by mentors throughout the entire marathon. The main task is to interpret a word or theme that is handed out on the first day, and over the course of the week the participants collaborate to create a short film based on their interpretation. We conclude the marathon with a collective screening, celebrating the achievement as a small film festival, where the participants also receive constructive feedback from mentors. The purpose is to create a sense of accomplishment and to strengthen collaboration.
